A male dancer dances with this mask, depicts the ideal woman. Carved by men to honor a woman that was fertile and had given birth, giving birth was a large honor. Also recognizes the female ancestor of the Chokwe lineage. Delicate and thin. It’s a crossdressing graceful dance that had all the characteristics of a woman. Calm mouth and eyes represents that the woman is at peace with herself after accomplishing her goal. The white powder is linked to the spiritual realm, it is emphasized to show that she has the spiritual power of being able to give birth. Fashionable hairstyle at the time. They were made from metal and wood by the Chokwe peoples of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
