Description:

-The communists began their first five-year plan for economic growth
-It was modeled on similar Soviet plans.
-Part of the plan was to build up China's industry, and another part was land reform
-The communists forced landlords to hand over their land to the peasants.
-During the violent change millions of people were killed.
-The peasants made their new lands into collective farms.
-The five-year plan was successful, as both agricultural and industrial output increased.
