Description:

Although the giant success of "The Wolf Man" in the early side of the decade, by the time the 1940's came about Universal's monster movie formulae was growing extremely stale, evidenced by sequels such as "The Ghost of Frankenstein" which were blatantly seen as desperate. This is understood due to the fact that the production of movies such as "Frankenstein Meet the Wolf Man" began being seen more and more. The studio then further stooped and began producing comedy-horror pairings such as "Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein" which surprisingly met with a little success. An academy award was won for Cinematography by MGM with their contribution to horror by making "The Picture of Dorian Gray" while Paramount the highly regarded haunted house picture "The Uninvited". At this point the world was innovating and even India started contributing to the horror genre by the notable international entry "Mahal" marked by India's first step into horror.
