Key Points: Statue meant to serve in his absence or departure from the world. Story wants us to believe that it is an original portrait; but most likely was created in the 7th century. This is when it is most likely to have been brought to Tibet by a Chinese princess as part of her dowry. This marks the time when Buddhism was brought to Tibet.
