Reign of terror, as it shows how the people- or at least the radicals- no longer wanted to be ruled by any sort of monarch. So they killed Louis XVI, ushering in a new France. By executing the king, the Jacobins consolidate their power, and strike fear into the hearts of those who oppose them, which was one of the bigger aspects of the "Reign of Terror"
