1 mars 1938 - Germany annexes Austria
Description:
In the second and more successful attempt to annex Austria, a vote for Anschluss (annexation) was forced upon the government. Before the vote could go through, however, the Austrian chancellor Kurt von Schuschnigg was forced to resign by Austrain Nazis, and many Nazis were elected to cabinet in Austria. German forces, led by Hitler himself, then marched into the country, where they were greeted by the people with open arms, and allowed to install a new Nazi government.
