The Lusitania was a British passenger ship that was sunk by German U-boats on May 7th, 1915. The Germans sunk it because they claimed that it was smuggling weapons to help the allies, which it was and therefore kinda justified, but nonetheless the deaths of over 1000 civilians turned public opinion against Germany.
