28 juin 1914 - Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand
Description:
The assassination of the Austro-Hungarian heir Archduke Franz Ferdinand by Serbian revolutionaries was the spark which ignited an already volatile Europe in a world war. The reason for this was the tangled and hidden series of alliances formed between the European countries. One one was attacked, all their allies would jump in, and then their allies and so forth. As such, when Autria-Hungary decided to take military action against Serbia in retaliation, these alliances drew most of Europe into war. The Brief Action of Ferdinand biting the bullet was certainly not the right action, as taking him out turned on this fire which would engulf Europe.
