Description:

The U2 program receives presidential approval.
The program was run wholly by the CIA in order to fly over the USSR and photograph defences and arms because they had very little knowledge of the country due to its closed society.
The design was first rejected by the air force who believed that more traditional planes were better but because of the USSR's aggressiveness around their airspace the CIA wanted aircrafts that could avoid their anti-air systems and radar.
