Description:

-The Nationalist leader Chiang Kai-shek went to the island of Taiwan with his supporters.
-They formed a government there
-In China on their mainland Mao Zedong’s Communists formed the People’s Republic of China.
-Around 1 million Chinese were killed during the communist takeover.
-The United States, which had supported the Nationalists, refused to recognize the new Chinese Communist government.
