The Coercive Acts- series of laws passed by British Parliment in 1774, they were passed to punish Boston because of the Boston Tea Party. The Coercive Act, also called the intolerable act, was meant to reverse the trend of colonial resistance, but actually promoted higher levels of resistance. The act closed Boston Harbor, town meetings were banned, officials were to go to Britain to be tried, quartering of troops, and the Quebec expansion.
