This event is the first domino in the defeat of the Axis. The Japanese sparked conflict with the superpower, United States, which tips the scale in power between axis and allies, onto the allies side. This could have been completely avoided by Japan, and they most likely would have won the war. Which is why it is important, it changed the outcome of World War 2, Japan could've won but instead they sparked conflict with the U.S.
