Description:
Otto von Bismarck isolated France by making diplomatic agreements with France's allies (Russia and Italy) to make sure they wouldn't fight. They banked on the fact that Britain wouldn't fight with the French because they wouldn't want France to become more powerful than they were. The isolated, disorganized, and tacticaly inferior French were swiftly defeated by the Prussian army, unifing the German states.
