During this era, the rich grew very rich, while the poor grew increasingly poorer.The term "Gilded Age" was coined by Mark Twain who meant it to be an era which was "encrusted in gold" He was referring to the fact that the life of the very wealthy made the times seem good, when in reality, they weren’t all that they seemed.
