1 janv. 1732 - Richard Bentley published "Milton’s Paradise Lost: A New Edition"

Description:

- “the suppos’d Friend (call’d in these Notes the Editor), knowing Milton’s circumstances … thought he had a fit Opportunity to foist into the Book several of his own Verses, without the blind Poet’s Discovery”

- inventive ‘Editor’ is the one making the mistakes
- allows for Bentley’s corrections
challenges distinctions between critic and poet - very controversial - breaks in on Milton - he is intrusive - makes both the reader and critic into fools

- in this edition he makes these very obvious edits
eg. “His thus intent Ithuriel with his Spear/ KNOWING NO REAL TOAD DURST THERE INTRUDE/ Touch’d lightly”
