Description:

The extreme restrictions placed on Germany in the treaty including the seizure of colonies, the elimination of the Airforce and most of the Navy, the demilitarization of the Rhineland, and most of all, the reparations of 132 billion gold marks that Germany would have to pay led to a feeling of national humiliation and caused a massive economic crisis that encouraged rebellion against the passive Weimar Republic years later. The vindictive terms of the treaty essentially laid the groundwork for WWII and sowed anger in the German people that Hitler was able to prey upon in his rise to power.
