The leader of Iraq Saddam Hussein wanted to take advantage of the disorder in Iran because of the revolution, he also wanted to expand Iraq's access to the Persian Gulf and take territories he claimed before when the Shah(Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi) was ruling Iran. other objectives of Iraq were the islans of Abu Musa and the Greater and Lesser Tunbs.
