Mormon writes an epistle to his son Moroni. He had heard that the people had begun to baptize children, thus corrupting the gospel and making a mockery of Christ.
This letter shows that there was still an organized church with authority among the Nephites. It also shows how the people were falling by degrees. It is not likely that there were many faithful left, but it is clear that there were some, and that they were now also starting to be corrupted.
My placing of this epistle is speculation, but is based on textual evidence of the state of the people and the events that are alluded to.
