1 janv. 1854 - Bleeding Kansas

Description:

The first fighting over slavery was in Kansas. In 1854, the government passed the Kansas-Nebraska Act. This allowed Kansas to let their people vote if they wanted Kansas to be a slave state or a free state. They fought over this small issue for many years. Several people were killed in small fights giving the name of bleeding Kansas. In the end, Kansas entered the Union as a free state in 1861. This caused the Civil War because if Kansas entered as a free state, it would break the Missouri compromise which outraged the South to cause the Civil War.
