- 1953 cia trains small guerilla army who are upset w/ land redistribution and spread propaganda against guisman as a communist
-guisman contacts ussr for support against u.s.
- u.s. navy blockades country and guerialla army attacks and guisman is overthrown by his army and a military dictatorship allied w/ u.s. installed
-latin american reaction: negative view of american imperialists/ inspires fidel castro and che guevarra as anti-americans
