Stonewall Jackson was a Confederate general during the American Civil War, and the best-known Confederate commander after General Robert E. Lee. Jackson played a prominent role in nearly all military engagements in the Eastern part of the U.S. His nickname derived from the Battle of Bull Run, where he courageously stood against the Union, giving him the nickname "Stonewall". In 1862 he performed exquisitely in attacking the army of the Potomac against their invasion of Richmond. He died a terrible death, getting shot by one of his own at the Battle of Chancellorsville.
