Description:

Sherman was one of the major generals of the Union and was very important for asserting Northern dominance in the Deep South, especially in Georgia. He recognized that the Southern war effort could only be destroyed if all parts of civilian society was also destroyed- thus, his March to the Sea left a sprawling path of destruction on the fields. He is most notable for his Atlanta campaign, where he burnt the city to the ground.
