11 févr. 1929 - Vatican City independent from Italy
Description:
On this day the Vatican City formally declared independence from Italy, establishing a tiny autonomous state 100% controlled by the Catholic Church. Whoever is named Pope by the Catholic Church automatically becomes the sovereign leader of the Vatican City. It is by far the smallest and least populous nation in the world. Its area accounts for only 0.19 square miles, and it's home to only 825 people as of 2019. Because of its unique nature the Vatican City is home to many international oddities, including the highest male-to-female ratio on Earth, and technically having very high crime per capita thanks to the petty theft that always happens around tourists.
