21 avr. 1526 - Mughal Empire

Description:

In the Indian Subcontinent, the Delhi Sultanate had declined rapidly due to large expansion of the Mughal Empire - an Islamic group of Central Asians who had established themselves in modern-day Afghanistan. By the mid 1500s the Mughal Empire had swept Eastwards occupying much of Northern India in an ambitious attempt to take the entire country.

A man by the name of Akbar succeeded the throne in 1556 and proceeded to expand the Empire to quickly control the entire Northern half of the subcontinent by the end of the century. Akbar made alliances with the Ottomans as well as Portuguese traders which gave him access to cannons and firearms. His use of artillery to maintain control of India was used to such an extent that some historians refer to his rule as the "Gunpowder Empire."
