7 avr. 1956 - Morocco independent from France and Spain
Description:
On this day, Morocco declared independence from Spain and France. France and Spain maintained protectorates over different areas of Morocco, and independence from both nations was negotiated simultaneously. Until the '90s, the King of Morocco ruled a totalitarian government with human rights abuses and poor political freedom. Today Morocco is one of the most prosperous countries in Africa, but still struggles with human rights issues and limited civil freedoms.
