24 déc. 1951 - Libya independent from British and French occupation
Description:
On this day Libya gained independence from the British and French, who had jointly controlled Libya since the end of World War II. Libya has had multiple internal changes in government since then, and unfortunately spent much of its history under a totalitarian dictatorship. Today the dictatorship is over, but opposing political factions have sunk Libya into an ongoing civil war.
