1 déc. 1918 - Iceland independent from Denmark
Description:
On this day Iceland formally declared independence from Denmark. Iceland had been largely autonomous for some time, and had been home to an independence movement since the early 19th century. For a couple of decades, Iceland had a relationship with Denmark similar to that of Canada with the UK, but it completely severed ties during World War II. Iceland has seen no challenges to its sovereignty since, and is one of the most peaceful countries in the world, with one of the highest qualities of life.
