2 oct. 1958 - Guinea independent from France
Description:
On this day, Guinea formally declared independence from France. The move was technically supported by France, but the French settlers in Guinea reacted violently to the news, destroying medicine and infrastructure before they departed rather than leave them for the Guineans. Unfortunately, Guinea has struggled for most of its history since then with poverty and dictatorship. The current leadership is more democratic than previous regimes, so there may be hope on the horizon.
