Raul Walsh started as a stage actor before a being a first AD for D.W. Griffith including 'Birth of a Nation'. Renowned for pushing camerawork including his 1915 film 'Regeneration'. 
Also gave John Wayne his break in 1930's 'The Big Trail' and furthered the careers of Humphrey Bogart in 'High Sierra', 1941  and James Cagney in 'White Heat', 1949.
