1 juin 1842 - Britain Receives Most-Favored-Nation Status
Description:
The Treaty of Nanking gave Britain "most-favored-nation status", a stipulation that gave later signatories of the treaty the same rights as the original - this guaranteed that any privileges China gave to other countries would be given as well. In the process, this prevented any colonization of China, since land owned by any one country would impossibly have to be owned by all of them.
