Description:
The Battle of Bull Run was fought a mere 25 miles outside of Washington. General Irvin McDowell was sent down to the Confederate capital, Richmond, by Lincoln in hopes of achieving a quick and swift victory. This was not the case and McDowell was forced to retreat after confederate reinforcements arrived.
