Description:
The Battle of Bull Run was fought a mere 25 miles outside of Washington. General Irvin McDowell was sent down to the Confederate capital, Richmond, by Lincoln in hopes of achieving a quick and swift victory. This was not the case and McDowell was forced to retreat after confederate reinforcements arrived. The confederates, though too tired to purse the union troops, managed to secure another victory.
