Description:
Due to excessive logging and grazing by sheep, John Muir urged Congress to set aside Yosemite as a National Park. This meant that this land could not be settled or developed. This was significant because, at a time in which land was being developed rapidly, the government sought to protect beautiful natural landscapes from human use.
