In the beginning of this year Ammoron sent an Epistle to Helaman to start negotiations for an exchange of prisoners.

His offer was simple. Give us those you took as prisoners, and we will give up the city of Antiparah.

Helaman, knowing that the most powerful Lamanites army had already been defeated, felt that his men could take the city on their own.
So, Helaman rejected the offer, but said he would be willing to give up their prisoners on exchange for the prisoners the Lamanites had taken.

This counter offer was rejected.
