20 nov 1910 - Mexican Revolution

Description:

Mexican Revolution was led by revolutionaries: Francisco Madero, Pancho Villa and Emiliano Zapata. In 1917, a constitution was drafted to formalize many of the reforms sought by rebel groups, which continued into 1930s. Mexico struggled as a nation. There were political fighting in the power vacuum left by Spain when it vacated Mexico, and arguments over the role of the Catholic Church in state affairs. President Benito Juarez served five terms from 1858 to 1872. He was known to sacrifice in military campaigns for Mexico and for advocating liberal policies, such as human rights and democracy. Many citizens struggled under his rule; however, he manipulated the electoral system to stay in office and centralized power to the federal government.
