16 déc. 1620 - Pilgrims Land
Description:
The Pilgrims left England and after a voyage of 66 days, the ship arrived in New England, (North America) on November 11th, 1620. They intended to settle in New York, near the Hudson River, but because it was so late in the year, the dangerous weather forced them to take shelter at Cape Cod. This is where most of the adult men signed the contract known as the Mayflower Compact, which laid the foundation for the community’s government. They began exploring the area and the Mayflower arrived in the Plymouth Harbor on December 16th, 1620. They began to build their town, but during this process, the pilgrims lived in the ship. Many of them fell ill because of lack of shelter in the cold and wet weather.
