30 juill. 1676 - Bacon's Rebellion

Description:

Bacon’s Rebellion was a revolt sparked by English colonists who wanted to attack the nearby Natives in retaliation for King Philip’s War. Led by Nathaniel Bacon, an army was raised to fight against them. Bacon’s army soon conquered and killed the natives nearby, and seeing Bacon’s impact on the colony, the governor captured Bacon. Because of Bacon’s popularity, the governor developed laws known as “Bacon’s laws” which democratized Virginian politics. Many of the natives that had relatively good relations with the colonists were indentured servants. By the 1700s, there was a huge shift from indentured servitude of the Natives to slavery of Africans and some natives. In need of labor, the North American colonists became active in the slave trade system that began developing in the 1600s. Race was the main role in this new labor system and from it slave codes were developed.
