The conflicts in Vietnam pitted the communist North Vietnam against South Vietnam and their ally, The United States. It was considered an extension of the Cold War because of the ideological difference between North and South, but was also very important independently speaking. It was the first war that met with very serious and unified backlash from the American people. Many saw this America interfering in affairs that did not concern them and acting as a colonial power.
