1 janv. 1863 - Emancipation Proclamation

Description:

The Emancipation Proclamation was issued during the third year of the Civil War (January 1, 1863). It declared that, "all persons held as slaves" within the rebellious states "are, and henceforward shall be free." The Proclamation had some issues. Slaves in the union were not technically free due to the proclamation's statement that it only freed slaves in the rebellious states. Despite its faults, it was revolutionary. It was used as a political tool to target and weaken the Southern states as well as helped to bring freed slaves to fight for the Union. The Proclamation would affect the American Government as well as American society heavily.
