3 mars 1820 - Missouri Compromise
Description:
During the 1800s there was much argument over which direction the country should move regarding the legality of slavery. During 1820 the Union was balanced between the number of slave states and free states. This balance was placed in jeopardy when Missouri wanted to become a slave state. The Missouri Compromise was a legislative compromise that allowed Missouri to enter the Union as a slave state if Maine entered the union as a free state, thus keeping the balance in the Senate.
