Description:
After the war, George Washington was a military hero and had the most influence of any single person among the American people. He was almost automatically selected to be the first president and guide the nation through the turbulence of independence. He established many precedents including how a president should behave and how they should be viewed. He established a president should be treated with respect but never as a royal human, above the people. His presidency set an example for all other presidents to emulate.
