The First Continental Congress was a meeting of twelve colonies in Philadelphia to discuss possible responses to British Parliament's strict actions toward the Colonists. The congress decided that the best action would be to boycott British trade and created the Continental Association to promote this. The First Continental Congress began on September 5, 1774 to unify the Colonies. Colonists like Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, and Samuel Adams were members and strong promoters of the First Continental Congress.
