28 août 1963 - March on Washington
Description:
While the American government was battling communism through the Cold War, American citizens were fighting for equal rights. The March on Washington for jobs and freedom was a political demonstration in Washington D.C. to protest racial discrimination in America as well as to support for the Civil Rights Act that the Kennedy administration was attempting to pass through Congress. It occurred on August 28, 1963. Over 200,000 people gathered by the Lincoln memorial to demand equal justice for all citizens under the law. This was where Martin Luther King Jr. gave his famous, "I Have a Dream" speech.
