1 janv. 1808 - Slave Trade Ends
Description:
After the Revolutionary War, the Northern states did not find slavery to be crucial to their economy. The Southern states were the polar opposite. They relied on slaves heavily, especially after the creation of the cotton gin. With the realization that the slave population in the United States was eight million, Southern states agreed with the Northern states that the need for importing slaves was not necessary. The importation of slaves officially ended January 1, 1808. The children of slaves were automatically also slaves so it kept slavery going in the United States for approximately 60 more years.
