9 avr. 1865 - Battle at Appomattox Courthouse

Description:

The Civil War ended when the General of the Confederate States of America, Robert E. Lee, surrendered to the Union General, Ulysses S. Grant, at Appomattox Courthouse in Virginia on April 9, 1865. Lee surrendered because he had no other option. His army was chased out of the Confederate capital of Richmond, and Grant kept tenaciously attacking his troops. The reasons why the North won the Civil War was because of industrial superiority, manpower supremacy, political organization, and African American troops. The Civil War strengthened American Nationalism as well as heavily impacted the federal government.
