26 janv. 1787 - Shays Rebellion
Description:
Following its independence, America was consumed with debt from the Revolutionary War. When the debt got too unbearable for small farmers and their petitions against the taxes were ignored, Daniel Shays, a former Continental Army Officer, led a group of 1200 men to seize control of the federal arsenal in Springfield, Massachusetts on January 26, 1787. The rebellion was met at the arsenal by federal troops who opened fire. This was the beginning of a civil war between the commercial class and the farming class that continue for decades.
