On October 12th 1492 Christopher Columbus and his crew of 3 ships named the Nina, Pinta and the Santa Maria reached what is now known as the Bahamas. Columbus was a Portuguese explorer who embarked on a ten week voyage funded by the Spanish monarchs to find the West Indies.
