Description:

Grenville imposed this measure in order to raise revenues to support the new military force. This act mandated the use of stamped paper or the affixing of the stamps as a payment of tax. Stamps were required on all sorts of papers. Grenville believed he was simply asking Americans to pay a fair share of the costs for their own defense, but Americans angrily reacted against it.
