31 oct. 1700 - 10. The Enlightenment

Description:

The Enlightenment was a philosophical movement as opposed to the Great Awakening which was a religious movement. The movement focused on reason and science. Enlightenment thinkers wanted reason to dictate life instead of religion. The Enlightenment opposed the Great Awakening in it focused on science and reason instead of religion. They saw god as a watchmaker who created everything and stepped back and lets it run its own course. This opposed religious thinking which said God was controlling everything and that he determined how people would act and live.
