Description:
The three-fifths compromise gave slaves the right to vote but their votes only counted 3/5 of a free man’s vote. It was a governmental attempt to be more “progressive” regarding voting rights but it was also an act of injustice and showed how much young America was struggling with acceptance and fairness. The three-fifths compromise was also created to hide American slavery by saying that the government was counting slaves as part of American population. Easily people could see that it wasn’t fair but the law was not outlawed until 1865.3.2, III
