Description:

This was the first Spanish constitution. It ended the Old Regime. Freedom of press was established, torture and the Inquisition were abolished, noble estates and guilds were suppressed and all citizens were declared equal before the law.

- It adopted the principle of separation of
powers
- It established Catholicism as the only religion
of Spain
